IWD 2022: Miss Rwanda Finalists deliver Flowers to Mothers at Nyamata Hospital

Miss Rwanda 2022 finalists currently in the bootcamp on Tuesday participated in different activities to mark the International Women’s Day 2022, among other things visiting mothers who delivered at Nyamata Hospital.

The contestants visited Nyamata Hospital delivery ward where they congratulated and interacted with women who had delivered, handing them flowers, in partnership with Bella Flowers, as well as other basic hygiene materials such as baby pampers, wipes and soap.

Marlene Uwimana, who spoke on behalf of the girls, said that there was no better way to celebrate IWD 2022 than celebrating with the new mothers and showing them love.

“We are happy to join you today, to get to know you and to celebrate this special women’s day with you. We pray that God continues to be with you and accompany you in this journey that you have begun, of raising children. Children are a gift from God,”

“We have visited you as the 20 girls who are vying for the Miss Rwanda 2022 pageant. Among us, there is Miss Rwanda 2022. Perhaps one of us will return here with a crown but we wanted to come and celebrate with you,” Uwimana told the nine mothers in the maternity ward at the time.

Immacule Mukandepandanse, Head of Maternity Services at Nyamata Hospital, thanked Miss Rwanda 2022 contestants and the organisers for thinking about the noble gesture of checking on the women who had overcome the rigours of child birth.

“Most of them were still in pain before you came but as you can see, they can now smile and they are happy to be with you here and to celebrate with you,” Mukandepandanse said.

She thanked Miss Rwanda finalists for their contribution towards the sanitary needs of the new mothers and said that the hospital will continue to sensitise them on hygiene and nutrition.

Nadine Tuyishimire, one of the mothers who was elated to see the girls, said that she had had a long day and night as she went into labour for a long time and was eventually operated on.

“I thank God that I am alive and a proud mother of a baby. Thank you, Miss Rwanda contestants, for checking on us and for the goods,” Tuyishimire said.

Brenda Nkusi, speaking on behalf of Bella Flowers, who escorted the girls and provided flowers, said that partnering with Miss Rwanda for the activity on IWD 2022 was timely as there is no better way to show love than through flowers.

“We partnered with Miss Rwanda in this activity because as we might all know, flowers show beauty, flowers show kindness, flowers show love. We are here to show love to these courageous women,”

“We wanted to give them flowers to show them that they are appreciated, loved, and valued as they should be,” Nkusi said.

On the same day, Miss Rwanda 2022 finalists participated in IWD 2022 celebrations in Bugesera District, held in Rilima sector, where they joined residents and officials in different festivities to mark the day.

The finalists participated in a number of activities, including a ceremony to award certificates of competence to women who completed training to start income generating activities, offered by a non-profit organisation ‘Fondazione Marcegaglia Onlus’.

The event was attended by MP Anonciata Mukarugwiza and the Mayor of Bugesera district, Richard Mutabazi. Miss Rwanda contestants enjoyed the day, interacting and dancing with locals to mark IWD 2022, which was globally celebrated under the theme “#BreakTheBias”.
