Miss Ingabire Grace launches ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project

In line with her ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project, Miss Rwanda Ingabire Grace in collaboration with AIF Rwanda, has started implementing her pig project aimed at empowering Community Health Workers. The project kicked off in Rwamagana District.

The aim of this project is to support and recognize the efforts of community health volunteers through income generating activities. Community health workers grouped in three cooperatives were given six pigs, their drugs and food for the project to succeed.

Miss Ingabire Grace launched the project by donating to 3 cooperatives but the plan is to ensure all 1,900 Community Health Workers grouped in 15 cooperatives in Rwamagana District benefit from the project.

“Community Health Workers are selfless, their work goes unrecognized yet the result of what they have been doing is undeniable. This initiative is a way for us to recognize and support them but also ensure that they grow from experience” – Aretha Mutumwinka from Africa Improved Foods.

Why pigs? Pig farming in #Rwanda has been growing progressively with the number of pigs increasing by 76% in the last five years to over 1.7 million, according to statistics from Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI).

“Embarking on community-centric projects that can impact others is what I signed up for when I was crowned Miss Rwanda 2021. I thank AIF Rwanda for making this possible. I look forward to working with them on more projects,” – Miss Rwanda Ingabire Grace.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the project and vowed to follow the distribution plan to ensure that other cooperatives can also benefit. Community Health Workers are volunteers whose efforts in sensitizing communities on different health issues have been vital.

The exercise to donate pigs to CHWs in Rwamagana District was graced by the presence of the district’s Vice Mayor in charge of Social affairs Umutoni Jeanne. AIF Rwanda was represented by Aretha Mutumwinka, Head of Key accounts Management and Corporate Communications.
